incense burner experiment

A friend asked if I could make him an incense burner. This is a super rough draft I threw together in an afternoon. I love the idea of the smoke coming out of his mouth but I have a few things I'll tweak for the next one. Already have a few orders from people who want one, yay. My only problem is thinking of things that smoke or steam...(sorry, the action shot of the smoke isn't great, I need a black background for it to show.)

Got a new camera for Christmas and took a pic of Loki. I was never able to get a good shot of his strange eyes before. I'm really happy with my new toy, can't wait to learn how to 'really' use it. Wish I could show the pic before resizing, so much clearer.

Love anything by Dawn Schiller (www.oddfae.com). Since I'm not able to buy her work right now, I did (what I thought was) the next best thing... made my version so I could wear something close to her style until I can buy my own.

Finally done that shrunken head for Joy
She wanted the mouth and one eye sewn shut, the other eye blue/blind, blond hair and a "mean old crone" look...the hair has been driving me nuts.

guppy fry...would take a lot of them to make a good sandwich...j/k

Just thought I'd add a pic of our new fry from Brimstona. There is no way to count all of those little buggers yet, there are just too many of them and they're darting all over. Jake has already started naming them...I sure hope most of them stay alive for us. This is the first time we've caught her having them, good thing we had the breeding net in there. All of her other babies were gobbled up as quickly as she had them, wonder if the other two mommas will have theirs soon...

Experimenting with transfers,I think like this method the most. I'll have to try it again to see if I can create a good finished product, this was just the experiment.

This baby has held up great. I wear mine constantly, showers, swimming, etc. and no problems at all. I'm just glad something I made is really durable. Woo!

It's after midnight so my birthday is officially over. Had a great day, I'm going to a party (shh, a secret) Sunday so we'll do the cake thing then. Personally, I'd rather have what I ate tonight- two lobsters, to myself. Sad for them but delicious for me, it's been a while since I've had seafood. Jake made me a card and a clay turtle, best thing I could have received and Rich gave me a new cell phone, among other goodies- I've been going a little ring tone happy tonight...oh well, the bill won't be in for a month ;) Mom was great, as always, she's here every year at 10:36pm to let me know when I was born and to tell me my birth story again, I love it. I need to start writing more entries for this journal. Off to clay some more, I've been doodling up a storm! Hopefully some pics soon.

I have a ton of spider photos...the little buggers are all around my house. Could anyone tell me what kind of spider this is? It's almost alien looking, I love it. I thought the the white part was an egg sac until I took a closer look. I checked a site for common ("common" because there are tons of them in the yard) spiders in Pennsylvania but no luck. (found out that it's a Spiny Micrathena)

Jake's clay

Jake made a few more things out of p.c. I'll put the pics behind a cut tag. The first is a pen he covered with glow-in-the-dark clay then added a snake (Jake the Snake, you know). I added the block with his name, we'll probably bake it and then fill with more g.i.t.d. so his name glows too.
Let's see, he ransacked my molds, lol. A glow in the dark turtle, an Eagles turtle (tried a cane slice in a mold) He did Flutternuts with gray and white and a fish skeleton and bone to go with him. A yellow balloon. Also a little sunflower for me, aww.
Yet another turtle, a face from one of my homemade molds, hermit crab, piranha and dragon foot earring holder.
He made this for Michelynn. It's a pink unicorn, I think it turned out great. I love that he's starting to make gifts for people now.
This is one I made a while ago but glazed today. I found that cheap dollar store acrylic floor finish works like Future as a sealant. I baked it and now it looks glossy and is hard as a rock (thought I'd experiment on something insignificant first but I like the look of it, looks a little slimy-perfect for a snail)

I finally got around to finishing the fairy. Mom donated the hair for it, I didn't have the heart to use anything else after she started chopping, lol. I'm happy with it, I think. So much has been going on lately, a lot of sadness. Lost Barry, didn't even go up to him at the viewing, he was the last friend of Dad's I knew, now there aren't any other links to him but John and Mom. We were all so excited about the baby, the little booties I made are put away now, I started bawling as soon as I saw the baby clouds yarn. It was tough to see John that way, he had just let his guard down again. Nancy is a trooper, God bless her, she's ready to try again. It was just so hard to see him or her during the ultrasound and then gone. Just not such a great time to be worried about clay, that's for sure. Mom wants me to post pics of the fairy around so I'll do it for her.
